Missouri Senate committee hears two bills to assist entertainment jobs

Jefferson City, MO. – On Monday afternoon, the Missouri Senate Economic Development and Tax Policy Committee heard several measures aimed at entertainment in our state, including SB 57 and 170.

Senator Doug Beck of St. Louis is the sponsor of Senate Bill 57 that would establish the Entertainment Industry Jobs Act:

Tax credits for filmmakers, and others, have not existed in the Show-Me State since November 2013.

Senator Denny Hoskins of Warrensburg sponsors Senate Bill 170, which is similar to SB 57 but, more limited in duration:

The only difference in the bills is that SB 170 contains the line “Notwithstanding the sunset provision, this act shall expire ninety days after all other political subdivisions having a tax credit substantially similar to this act let such tax credits lapse or expire.”

Both proposals await final committee action.

Missouri senators are looking at the first discussion on legislation as a complete body. There are currently four measures on the Missouri Senate Formal Perfection Calendar, which means they are ready for floor discussion and potential preliminary vote.
