LOVE: A SHORT TALK

DAYTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Make plans now to attend our meeting on Monday, January 30th at 6 pm. This month’s guest will be Bill Buchanan, who will share some memories from his years broadcasting local radio. It should be a great night.The Dayton Historical Society meets at Parker Hall at 201 S. Hill St. behind the Old School Museum.

DAYTON NOON LIONS CHILI SUPPER

The Dayton Noon Lions Club will be hosting a Chili Supper Thursday, Feb. 2, from 5-9 at the First Baptist Family Life Center, 202 E Houston St. It is $10 per person, and kids five and under eat free. Eye scanning equipment will also be available at no charge to screen children six months to 18 years old. All proceeds will benefit Lions charities.

SPRING PASTURE & FORAGE CEU CONFERENCE Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Liberty County will be hosting a multi-county Spring Pasture & Forage CEU Conference on Feb. 7, 8:30 am – 2:30 pm, at the TVE Fairgrounds in the Community Room, 321 Wallisville Rd, Liberty, TX 77575. Topics will include Technology Updates for Smut Grass Control & Management, Laws & Regulations Updates, Pesticide Product Updates, Weed Management through Soil Fertility Analysis, and Wildlife & Forage Competition & Complementation. DAYTON ROTARY GUMBO

LUNCHEON

The Dayton Rotary Club will hold a fund-raising gumbo luncheon on Friday, Feb. 17, to benefit the scholarship fund and their other community efforts. The chicken-sausage gumbo will be served at the Fellowship Hall of the First Methodist Church in Dayton at the corner of Cleveland and Houston Streets. They will serve from 10:30 am until 2:30 pm or until they are sold out. Take-outs are available. Tickets are $12.00 and include all you can eat and a drink. DYSA BASEBALL & SOFTBALL SIGN-UPS

DYSA will be hosting Baseball and Softball sign-ups. Baseball tryouts will be as follows 2/23 6:30 pm 14u, 7:30 pm 12u. 2/24 6 pm 10u. 2/25 10a 6u, 1 pm 8u. Softball tryouts will be 2/25 10a 6u & 8u, 11:30 am 10u, 12/15u. JUNIOR TEEBALL DOES NOT TRY OUT. The cost is $150 and includes a jersey, team hat (baseball), or team socks (softball). Registration closes Feb. 19, and a late fee of $25 will be applied from 2/20-2/25. In-person sign-ups 1/21 & 2/2 at Nottingham & High school gyms; 10a-2p, card payments only. Opening day is March 25. LISD EDUCATION FOUNDATION CASINO NIGHT The Liberty ISD Education Foundation will host a Casino Night, sponsored by Elite Electric and Von Schmidt Land & Cattle, on March 4, 7 – 10 pm. The event will be held at Trinity Valley Exposition. General admission tickets are $75 and will be available online, or you can contact the Education Foundation Office at 936-641-0367. Raffl e tickets will also be available, 1 for $10 or 6 for $50. 1st price will be a Gucci GG Marmont small shoulder bag, and 2nd price will be a $1300 gun voucher. This is an exclusive fundraising event to provide innovative grants for Liberty ISD.

CLEVELAND NINTH GRADE CENTER FOOD MARKET Cleveland Ninth Grade Center hosts a Food Market every two weeks, from 9 am – 12 pm. This market is set up and run by student volunteers. Everyone is welcome. We have a goal to provide food for 150 families. Help us reach our goal! The Market is located at 1522 N. Blair, Cleveland.

SENIOR LUNCHEON

Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, a free senior luncheon will be held at the Dayton Community Center 11 am – 12 pm. The event will be hosted by the City of Dayton, Trinity River Food Bank, and G.R.A.C.E. Call 936-258-6630 to sign up for a meal.

YARN CLUB

Every Tuesday, 11:30 am –1 pm, Yarn Club meets at the Dayton Community Center. There will be crocheting, quilting, knitting, cross stitch, embroidery, and just about anything you can think of with yarn! Call a Yarn Club member with questions at 281-385-5398.

INSIDE WALKING

Monday-Thursday, 8 am-4 pm, walk the inside air-conditioned hallway square/track (463 ft/0.088 miles) at the Dayton Community Center, 801 S Cleveland St.

SIT & BE FIT

There will be an indoor Senior Workout Class every Monday and Thursday, 12:30–1:15 pm, at the Dayton Community, 801 S Cleveland St. For more information, call 936-258-6630.

SENIOR BREAKFAST

On the third Thursday of every month, a Senior Breakfast will be held at the Dayton Community Center at 9 am. Donations are welcomed. Thrif-tee Food Center will sponsor the breakfast.

SENIOR BINGO

Every Wednesday and Friday at 12 pm, there will be Senior Bingo held at the Dayton Community Center. It is free for all seniors. For more information, call 936-258-6630 or email communitycenter@daytontx. org.

SENIOR POTLUCK

The Dayton Community Center will host a Senior Potluck in the Senior Center on the third Thursday of every month. Bring a covered dish. For more information, contact 936-258-6630.

DOMINOS

The City of Dayton will host Dominos 42 on Tuesdays from 8 am -12 pm at the Dayton Senior Center. If you are not into “42”, then bring some friends. There will be plenty of cards and dominos at the Senior Center. You can start a new group!

ALCOHOL CHEMICAL TREATMENT SERIES A.C.T.S. is now being offered in Liberty by a trained, program- certified instructor. These classes will satisfy court orders and/or personal growth desires. HARDIN SENIOR CITIZENS

The Hardin Senior Citizens meet at the Hardin Community Center each week, Tuesday- Friday the center opens at 8:30 am for anyone wanting a little breakfast at no charge or just to swing in to visit. DAYTON OLD SCHOOL MUSEUM The Dayton Old School Museum is open to the public from 10 am – 2 pm on Saturdays. The museum is located at 111 W. Houston St. in Dayton.

CELEBRATE RECOVERY

The Family Church in Hardin hosts Celebrate Recovery, a weekly class every Tuesday at 7 pm. If you know someone who needs this class, please share this information with them. This is a Bible-based recovery program for alcohol, drugs, codependency, anger management, etc. The Family Church is at 9456 HWY 146 N in Hardin, Texas.

The City of Liberty has Coffee with the Mayor on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 am in council chambers.

AMES CITY COUNCIL MEETING As the city’s legislative branch of the City of Ames government, the City Council holds open public meetings where local laws, policies, and fundamental decisions are discussed and decided. City Council members are elected at large.
