LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KFOX14) — Abe Romero Day: Organ Mountain High honoring teen, never forgetting their #22
Thursday is a day of remembrance across in the Las Cruces community.

The city chose September 22, because it was Romero's football number.
KFOX14 spoke with Organ Mountain High School Principal Jim Schapekahm about how the school is honoring Romero.
“The marquee pretty much says it all. The candles out in the front, the flag out in the front. The only analogy I can say, is it’s supposed to be one of the bigger weeks here at school, rivalry week, playing the game tomorrow night and there is not one poster about the other team, not one poster about us, it’s all about Abe and how we’re trying to remember him,” Schapekahm said.

Schapekahm said there’s no spirit posters hanging on their school walls because the school is honoring Romero.
Schapekahm said Romero was a great kid and was loved by many people.
He said every single day moving forward he will be remembered, not just on Sept 22.
“I told mom the other day, thoughts and prayers are with you and he will never be forgotten, they’ll be some type of memory just like we have for every student that’s unfortunately not with us anymore,” Schapekahm said.
Funeral arrangements were made, which include a public viewing Friday.
