Rockdale man indicted in sexual assault of teenager

At about 5:20 p.m. on July 22, 2021, investigators with the Cameron Police Department learned from the girl’s mother that she was touched inappropriately at a residence on the 3400 block of North Travis Avenue while babysitting.

A family member was the first to hear about the incident from the girl and was interviewed by police.

She told police that on that day, while on a break from work, she went by a residence and saw that the front door was locked, and after knocking for some time, Grosshans opened the door.

“Benny opened the door, and she instantly felt ‘a weird vibe,’” an arrest affidavit said. “When she asked Benny where (the 13-year-old) was, he responded, ‘in the bathroom, I guess.’”

The woman said the girl was acting nervous, so she texted her without Grosshans noticing to ask her what happened, and the girl responded, “I don’t know how to say it,” the affidavit said.

The woman tricked Grosshans into going outside the house, locked him outside to speak with the girl in private, and found out that he had allegedly “went in her pants and touched her private area,” the affidavit said.

The woman told Grosshans to leave the home and phoned the girl’s mother to let her know what happened.

The girl was interviewed twice by a sexual assault nurse examiner and by a forensic examiner, respectively.

“(The girl’s) account of the incident remained consistent with what she had previously reported but added additional details (about the abuse),” the affidavit said. “(The girl) estimated that (the abuse) happened for about five minutes before (the family member) started banging on the door, at which time she said Benny picked her up and put her in the bathroom.”
