Texas Governor Greg Abbott is taking a stand in the war on drugs crossing the Texas border and designating the drug cartels as terrorist networks.
Wednesday, the Governor directed the Department of Public Safety to double down on its efforts combating Mexican drug cartels.
Abbott was in Midland for a roundtable with DPS Director Steve McCraw and local law enforcement and politicians. DPS is under orders to boost efforts to collect intelligence on cartels, investigate gangs that support drug and human smuggling, and to seize goods the cartels are smuggling back to Mexico.
Abbott is also demanding that the Biden administration also classify the cartels as terrorist at the federal level.
