Nonprofit breaks ground on Plano seniors community with cottage homes, apartments

The project will include more than 180 apartments and 30 cottage homes.

Construction is under way on a community in Plano that will have hundreds of apartments and cottage homes for seniors.

Dallas-based nonprofit owner and developer Forefront Living broke ground this week on The Outlook at Windhaven, a senior-living development in Plano. The roughly 530,000-square-foot gated community will include 153 apartments and 30 cottage homes for independent living as well as 32 assisted-living apartments and 24 memory-support suites.

The community is anticipated to bring more than 120 new jobs to Plano.

Tim Mallad, CEO of Forefront Living, said in a statement that the community is already more than 70% pre-sold. Construction is expected to be complete by 2024.

The community will be on an 18.2-acre creekside property at West Spring Creek Parkway and Windhaven Parkway, near Windhaven Meadows Park. It is part of the redevelopment of the Haggard family farm.

Three Living Architecture designed the project with a materials palette that pays homage to the Texas Hill Country.

“The design takes inspiration from the beautiful, existing grove of trees along a small creek on the farmland where we’re building,” said Carl Ede, principal and senior designer of Three Living Architecture, in a statement. ”The cottages and other units are oriented so that the expansive windows offer views of the tree-lined setting.”

The project team also includes development consultant Greystone Communities, Andres Construction, landscape architect TBG Partners, interior design firm Bridget Bohacz + Associates and civil engineer Kimley-Horn. B.C. Ziegler provided financing.

Forefront Living is the parent organization of Presbyterian Village North, Faith Presbyterian Hospice and the T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center.

New communities for seniors are popping up all over North Texas. Irving-based JPI also just broke ground on a seniors rental community in Anna.
