Deadline Extended of Ohio's H2Ohio Enrollment for Row Crop Producers

Deadline Extended of Ohio's H2Ohio Enrollment for Row Crop Producers

By Andi Anderson

Ohio farmers outside the Western Lake Erie Basin have a chance to participate in the H2Ohio program, as the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) extends the enrollment deadline for row crop producers. Here's what you need to know:

  • Extended Deadline: Producers now have until May 31, 2024, to enroll in H2Ohio, providing an extended opportunity to join the initiative aimed at enhancing water quality across the state.
  • Enrollment Details: ODA aims to enroll 500,000 acres on a first-come, first-served basis. To learn more about enrollment and eligibility criteria, reach out to your local Soil and Water Conservation District.

Governor DeWine's H2Ohio initiative, launched in 2019, addresses water quality challenges, including harmful algal blooms fueled by phosphorus runoff. Initially focused on northwest Ohio counties near Lake Erie, H2Ohio now extends its reach to row crop producers statewide, encouraging the adoption of science-based best management practices.

H2Ohio is part of Governor DeWine's commitment to safeguarding Ohio's water resources. Through a data-driven approach, the initiative promotes agricultural best practices, wetland restoration, and upgrades to home septic systems to reduce nutrient pollution.

Don't miss this opportunity to be part of Ohio's efforts to ensure safe and clean water for generations to come. For more information on H2Ohio and how to enroll, visit h2.ohio.gov.
