Man jailed in Texarkana now charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14.

TEXARKANA, Texas -- A man arrested in April on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child is now also facing a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14.

The investigation into Alberto Cucul, 45, of Texarkana, started with Texarkana Independent School District's police and Child Protective Services after a child made an outcry to a teacher about being sexually assaulted by Cucul over a period of several years. The teacher contacted Texarkana Texas Police Department.

With the help of Homeland Security Investigations, Cucul was located and arrested April 12 and extradited back to Texas. He is being held in Bi-State Detention Center on total bail of $350,000.

The charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14 was added after his arrest, according to jail records.

Cucul had allegedly told the girl he had something "special" for her birthday, according to a probable cause affidavit. The girl understood that to mean another assault and that's when she reached out for help, according to the affidavit.

Investigators examined Cucul's phone and allegedly found photos that support the girl's allegations.

If convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child, Cucul faces 25 to 99 years or life in prison with no parole possible. If found guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a child, he faces five to 99 years or life.
