United States Customs and Border Protection apprehended three men with felony criminal records for sexual offenses involving children.
Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens revealed Monday that the three criminal sex offenders would be “set up for prosecution and removal” from the country.
Agents made the apprehensions in Eagle Pass, Rio Grande City, and Cotulla.
“All had prior felony convictions for Indecency w/ child Sexual contact,” Owens stated on X.
News of the incident came the same day CBP separately announced in a press release that officers at the Port of Buffalo’s Peace Bridge border crossing arrested a Mexican national found in possession of child pornography.
After a brief investigation, the officers took in Marco Barajas Barron, 52, for possession of the materials. Felony charges are now being pursued against him.
“Our CBP officers are among the best at identifying nefarious actors as part of their border security mission,” stated Buffalo Port Director Gaetano Cordone. “We continue to successfully collaborate with our local law enforcement partners to keep our communities safe.”
Selene Rodriguez, the campaign director for the Secure and Sovereign Texas campaign at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, told Texas Scorecard that she was grateful to hear the Border Patrol was able to catch the offenders.
Still, “I am also fearful of the thousands of criminals that are tucked away in every state in our nation due to lawless catch and release policies and a federal government that refuses to secure our border,” continued Rodriguez.
What we do know is that it is easier than ever for people to illegally enter our nation and to do so without detection. And for those people who are putting in the effort to come through undetected, it makes you wonder why they’d want to if they could easily get apprehended and released.
Earlier this month, Texas Scorecard reported that a group of suspected illegal aliens were arrested by local police in Baytown for possession of child pornography.
There were more than 2.4 million Border Patrol encounters with illegal aliens in fiscal year 2023. Thus far in fiscal year 2024, which began on October 1 last year, there have been more than 1.3 million.
