WHITESBORO, Texas (KXII) - This week’s A+ Athlete is Karter Sluder from Whitesboro High School.

Karter’s work begins in the classroom, after four-straight years on the A/B Honor Roll, he holds a 3.8 GPA. This earned him academic all-district honors in four different sports during his time at Whitesboro. He’s also a member of leadership groups for FCA and his local church. Helping him earn acceptance into Oklahoma State, with Karter planning to attend Stillwater in the Fall.

“Very business oriented, like he’s set about to do a mission and that is to do the work the best way that he can,” said Whitesboro English Teacher Bernadette Orr. “Very friendly, very kind, very respectful, very nice. But also, just goal oriented I would so. "

“My parents have always taught me that having good grades is important and I think if you stay focused in the classroom,” said Sluder. “I think it will just allow you to become a better person in life because you’re always going to have goals for yourself.”

Athletically, Karter continues his grind. Competing in five sports for the Bearcats, Karter earned a laundry list of accomplishments. From Dave Campbell’s Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week to All-District Basketball Defensive MVP, and even Regional Qualifying in Track. Karter has done it all for the Boro.

“Whatever sport we’re in and whatever is asked of him, he’s going to accept that challenge and do what it takes to give the Bearcats the best chance to win,” said Whitesboro Athletic Director Cody Fagan. “So, the ultimate team player, the ultimate team first guy. There’s not a lot of kids like that around these days.”

“You can learn certain things in athletics and those are very valuable that you can carry on with you for the rest of your life and I would say teamwork and being a leader,” said Sluder. “Whenever you work well with a team you can carry it onto life, and you can work well with others in your job, and it will carry on with you a long way. Being able to work efficiently and get things done efficiently.”
