‘Sock Hop’ highlights child abuse

Members of the Knights of Paragon Chapter of the Bikers Against Child Abuse,  left to right, Bubba Beggs, Lisa Beggs, Merredith  Moore and Jimmy Moore, were at the “Lets Sock Out Child Abuse” Sock Hop at the Doyle Community Center Saturday evening.

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month.

To raise awareness, on Saturday evening the children from the K’Star Emergency Shelter danced the evening away at the Doyle Community Center pavilion with the help of dance teacher and disc jockey Clifton Fifer, during the “Let’s Sock Out Child Abuse” Sock Hop.

Over 60 adults and children attended the event to highlight the number of children in our community who have been victims of some form of child abuse.

The event was co-sponsored by the local chapter of B.A.C.A. (Bikers Against Child Abuse), the Doyle Community Center, and K’Star. B.A.C.A. members in the community mentor the children during their recovery from abuse and accompany the children when needed to court hearings and other events. The local Chick-fil-A restaurant provided food for the event and Raising Canes provided the drinks. H-E-B also provided gift cards to cover other expenses.

In Texas alone, a total of 59,110 children were confirmed victims of abuse and neglect in 2023.

To report child abuse, call (800) 252-5400 or visit www.dfps.Texas. gov.
