Caldwell, Texas (KBTX) - News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion Grant McManus.

The Caldwell high school senior has a 4.1 grade point average and ranks in the top 10% in his class.

Grant stays very active in the community with the National Honor Society, Young Life, FCA and FFA Bass Club and helps out at local churches.

“Grant brings so much energy to the classroom, and it really makes him stand out amongst his peers,” said social studies teacher Kara Mantey. “A lot of our kids these days just want to get by with the bare minimum. And that’s not Grant. So he’s a good example of setting the bar high and setting goals that that you can achieve your best.”

“Working hard has not only resulted in my personal achievements, but it also allows me to be a role model to those around me,” said Classroom Champion Grant McManus. “If I had to give any other, underclassmen advice, I would say to always be involved in anything that you can be. It helps you practice leadership and accountability. That way you can succeed and all the other things that you do.”

Athletically Grant plays basketball, golf, and tennis for the Hornets. In basketball, he helped his team take 2nd at district and was also awarded Academic All District. In golf, he was awarded Academic All State and was also recently awarded first place individual at district.

“He’s one of those that kind of leads by example,” said head golf coach Jacob Schaefer. “Even when he’s not doing his best, you know, he’s still stays focused. He doesn’t lose his composure. but he’s also always want to do better. This year he was the individual district champion for our boys. reason I guess that was prideful for me that I really just enjoyed was, he came out in district, ended up, doing what I expected he was going to do. And, won district as individual champ.”

Following high school, Grant wants to attend Texas A&M May’s Business School and major in business.

Congratulations to Grant McManus of Caldwell High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion.
