RED OAK – Life School has received full system approval from the Texas Education Agency under the Teacher Incentive Allotment. The approval grants Life School nearly $300,000 to recognize TEA-designated Teachers this year. Only 25% of districts in the state hold this designation, according to the Texas Public Charter School Association.
Life School submitted the collected data and recommended designations for 65 teachers. TEA Designated teachers will receive 90% of the funds. The remaining 10% will be used to cover expenses related to Life School’s National Board Cohorts and other administrative costs to support the requirements of the TIA program. The allotment will be paid to Life School teachers by the end of August. The teacher must still be employed by Life School at the time of payout to be eligible for the state stipend.
“We are very excited about Life School’s involvement in the TIA program,” said Dr. Stephanie Colwell, chief talent officer. “The goal of TIA is to recognize and reward outstanding teachers based on student growth and classroom observations. This state stipend will allow us to generate additional funding to provide to these top performers.”
The Teacher Incentive Allotment was created to elevate the education profession by providing districts with systems and funding to recruit promising new teachers, retain their best teachers, and incentivize teachers to work in high-needs schools and difficult-to-staff positions. Based on the Texas Education Code (TEC), §21.3521 (Local Optional Teacher Designation System) and §48.112 (Teacher Incentive Allotment), TIA is built to provide lasting funds for outstanding Texas teachers to remain in the classroom and improve student outcomes.
Life School is a tuition-free, public charter school with campuses in Carrollton, Cedar Hill, Lancaster, Mountain Creek, Red Oak, Oak Cliff, and Waxahachie.
