Charges filed against woman accused of causing dozens of flight delays after getting onto runway at Bush Airport

Charges have been filed against a woman whose actions temporarily caused the shutdown of all air travel Tuesday evening at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

Ivori H. Howard, 22, was charged with impairing or interrupting the operation of a critical infrastructure facility.

According to Houston Airports, Howard breached the secured perimeter of the airport and gained access to the airfield around 8:30 p.m. The 15L runway was immediately shut down as Houston police and airport operations crews responded to detain the trespasser.

New Houston ISD superintendent announces principal evaluation plans, pay increases

Houston Independent School District’s new state-appointed superintendent, Mike Miles, unveiled how he and his team plan to grade principal effectiveness in the upcoming school year.

Miles said he’s relying on four criteria: student achievement, quality of instruction, special education, and action plan.

“That is a very specific plan that outlines five or six specific actions that principals need to take, this year, that will be indicators of success tied to those actions and they will be evaluated on,” Miles said during an announcement to news outlets.

Following ‘F-bomb’ drop, Judge Hidalgo denies commissioner’s request to apologize

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Commissioner Tom Ramsey both spoke out Wednesday following some tense moments at commissioner’s court on Tuesday.

The order of business was interrupted when Judge Hidalgo dropped the “F-bomb” while addressing a question about a county program.

Wednesday, Commissioner Ramsey doubled down on what he said is the need for an apology from the judge. Meanwhile, she’s focused on getting the word out about what she said is a double standard between women and men in politics.

Millions breathing hazardous air as smoke from Canadian wildfires streams south over US

Smoke from Canadian wildfires poured into the U.S. East Coast and Midwest on Wednesday, covering the capitals of both nations in an unhealthy haze, holding up flights at major airports, postponing Major League Baseball games and prompting people to fish out pandemic-era face masks.

Canadian officials asked other countries for additional help fighting more than 400 blazes nationwide that already have displaced 20,000 people. Air with hazardous levels of pollution extended into the New York metropolitan area, central New York state and parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Massive tongues of unhealthy air extended as far as North Carolina and Indiana, affecting millions of people.
