In Loving Memory of Deania Moses, 1952-2023
Deania Moses, age 70, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. She was born on September 5, 1952, in Eagle Pass, Texas to the late Amelia and Abdalla Moses. Deania’ s commitment was to her family and all the students she spent 37 years teaching.
Everyone who knew Deania can attest to her commitment to excellence and her drive to care for all those she loved. She spent her life dedicated to her family, keeping her family as close as possible, and being a dutiful and loyal daughter and sister. She took care of her parents and their medical needs daily for more than 20 years. She was an especially ardent and loyal friend. If Deania supported you and your endeavors, you were bound to win, because she would give her all for your success.
Deania was always interested in the matters of her beloved Quemado and her community’s politics. She followed the news of the community and was involved in issues dear to her. She worked especially hard during her fight with cancer to help her brother’s candidacy for the Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 Board of Directors. She actively campaigned on his behalf. She worked with her parents in other political elections supporting candidates whom she thought would make her community a better place for all its residents.
Deania graduated from Eagle Pass High School and went on to receive her Bachelor’s and Master degrees in Education from Texas Women’s University. She used her education to ensure that all of the students she taught would excel in their learning. She was a strict adherent to the principles of teaching her students the basics of all the subjects, making the lessons interesting and yet challenging.
Deania would often speak about her former students and the success they had achieved, hoping she had made a difference in their lives. She began her teaching career at San Luis Elementary School in Eagle Pass. She later moved to Seco Mines Elementary School and ended her teaching career at Kirchner Elementary School in Quemado.
In 1998, Deania won the Eagle Pass Business Journal Award as Teacher of the Year. She was again recognized in 2005 as an Outstanding Teacher by the Maverick Excellence in Education, Inc., founded in memory of the late Mona Cordova. After retiring from teaching, Deania joined her sister, Lilia, in operating Moses Pecan Farm.
