BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. -- A TikTok trend involving students vandalizing school bathrooms for likes and follows is sweeping the nation and it's happening right here in our districts.

The crimes range from damaging soap dispensers to stealing fire extinguishers.

One principal told Channel 3 teachers are even taking their stuff home because of this new trend.

Joe Sharp, Principal at Robertsdale High School said "from one student we recovered I think nine bags of soap."

The "Devious Lick" TikTok challenge is where students steal or damage items like school sinks, soap dispensers, and toilets -- in hopes for shares and likes.

"I was disappointed that students were more concerned about likes than about respect for other students," Michael Brandon, Principal at Gulf Breeze Middle School said.

Brandon told Channel 3 they've noticed a few things like soap and paper towel dispensers damaged in a couple of the bathrooms at the school.

He says luckily, this is just a few kids making some bad decisions and the damages haven't been too costly.

As for Robertsdale High School, Sharp says he cannot say the same.

"Some exit signs, some fire alarm sensor covers have been stolen, a knob in one of the science labs that turns on the gas or water has been stolen," Sharp said. "We have, so far, suspended nine students and two of those students are facing criminal charges for the theft of those fire extinguishers."

Both principals have the same message to the students committing these crimes.

"Just do what you're expected to do. We're not asking you to do anything special, just don't vandalize things, don't take things," Brandon said.

The schools want to stress that this is only a handful of students and as of Friday there have been no reports of vandalism.
