SNYDER, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Snyder ISD is offering support for students, faculty, and staff grieving the loss of a teacher killed in a crash on I-20 west of Pecos, Texas, Friday night.

The Snyder Daily News says the Texas Department of Public Safety reports Snyder High School Math teacher James Carson was killed after veering into the path of an eighteen-wheeler that was traveling the opposite way down I-20 about 25 miles west of Pecos.

The newspaper report says Carson took action to miss the eighteen-wheeler, which caused his vehicle to leave the interstate, cross the service road, and come to rest in a field.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Snyder ISD Superintendent James Kirkland released the following statement in light of Mr. Carson’s death:

It is with great sadness that the administration, staff, and students of Snyder ISD learned about the tragic death of James Carson, a Snyder High School Math teacher.
