MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) - Teachers and staff at Midland ISD are getting a pay raise.

The MISD Board of Trustees approved the raises this week.

The district increased the starting teacher salary to $57,500, saying its the highest in West Texas.

It also approved an increase to the minimum hourly wage for support staff, bringing that up to $13 an hour.

As for current teachers and staff, they’re all getting a 2% pay increase.

“We all believe that teachers should be the highest-paid employees in every profession because they make every profession possible. But this is a way for us to show our appreciation and how much we value our staff,” said Dr. Angelica Ramsey, the superintendent of MISD.

The pay increases are set to take effect in August on the first day of the new school year.
