Initial unemployment claims see decline in Ohio

Initial unemployment claims dropped under 24,000 last week, and around 1,200 were flagged for potential fraud.

Ohioans filed 23,117 initial jobless claims last week, down from 44,985 initial claims filed the week prior. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services says the over 3.2 million claims filed over the last 56 weeks outnumbers those filed between 2013-2019.

Residents filed 265,461 continued jobless claims last week, which was 510,841 fewer than the peak last year. Over the last 56 weeks, ODJFS has distributed over $9.4 billion in unemployment compensation payments to over 986,000 Ohioans and over $10.3 billion in PUA payments to over 1 million residents.
