AUSTIN, Texas — U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-San Antonio, is serving on the team overseeing the impeachment of President Donald Trump. After the House voted to impeach the president for a second time Wednesday, the process now moves to the Senate where Castro will be part of the prosecution against Trump as an impeachment manager in the Senate trial.

In an interview on Capital Tonight, he said he's optimistic the senate will vote to convict this time.

"There's always a high bar for conviction in the Senate. You need 67 senators. But I am encouraged by the words of Mitch McConnell... others like Lisa Murkowski, the senator from Alaska," Castro said. "I'm optimistic that people will be able to put country over person, country over this president, and do the right thing and acknowledge Trump's role in inciting a deadly insurrection against the U.S. government, an attempted coup."

Castro will be one of nine impeachment managers who will make the case on behalf of the House that the Senate should convict Donald Trump.
