New coronavirus cases reported across the state on Sunday reached 8,133 — the second-highest daily total since March — with Ohio surpassing 350,000 cases since the pandemic began last spring.

The Ohio Department of Health reported a total of 351,419 cases in Ohio since the pandemic began, leading to 5,996 deaths and 24,423 hospitalizations.

The daily total was second only to the 8,808 new cases reported Friday, which was a record high.

Gov. Mike DeWine said last week the Department of Health has been double-checking the results of antigen tests for COVID-19, and a backlog has developed.

A 21-day statewide curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. went into effect Thursday night.

Seventy-two of Ohio’s 88 counties are at Level 3, or red. Franklin County, home of the state’s capital, is the only one at Level 4, or purple. The remaining 15 are at Level 2.

Mahoning County reported 129 new cases Sunday, increasing its total since the start of the pandemic to 6,772. There have been 660 hospitalizations and 299 deaths. No new deaths were reported Sunday.

Trumbull County reported 131 new cases, making its total 4,969. One new death was reported Sunday, bringing the number of fatalities to 144. Columbiana County added 44 cases, putting its total at 3,284 with 285 hospitalizations and 96 deaths — an increase of one since Saturday.

Mahoning County has the 10th-most cases in Ohio. Trumbull ranks 17th, and Columbiana ranks 26th.
