LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Red Ribbon Week events continued at a local high school with the help of local rotary clubs.

The event at the Jose Valdez High School brought students, staff, rotary members, and district officials together to bring awareness to choosing a drug-free life.

As a symbol of this, red tulip bulbs were planted in the hope that they will bloom next spring and remind students of the promise they made to remain drug-free, a gesture the school principal says she is very appreciative of.

“I would like to thank the rotary club for considering us for this grant and for helping the community, and reaching out to the community, and the students in this manner and for being part of this ceremony, alongside with us to promote the awareness of drug abuse and celebrate drug prevention," said principal Lizzy Newsome.

The rotary clubs also took the opportunity to present the school will much needed funds.
