Longtime Sinton baseball coach Gene Kasprzyk is set to be inducted into the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in the 2021 class.

The organization announced on its website on Wednesday.

Kasprzyk coached Sinton’s baseball team for 29 seasons from 1987-2015 after two years as an assistant. Kasprzyk led the Pirates to state championships in 1988, '89 and 2002. Kasprzyk also guided Sinton to the state tournament four other times during his career and won nearly 800 games. Kasprzyk, a Falls City native, also coached at Three Rivers.

Gene Kasprzyk throws the first pitch in the newly-named Gene Kasprzyk Field, Saturday, March 23, 2019. The Pirates made seven appearances at the state tournament under Kasprzyk.

Kasprzyk was awarded the Texas Sportswriters Coach of the Year in 2002 and was the Caller-Times South Texas Baseball Coach of the Year three times. He also was the recipient of the Hooks Lifetime Achievement Award and was the Sinton ISD Teacher of the Year twice.

In 2018, Sinton ISD renamed the baseball field for Kasprzyk. He will join legendary South Texas coaches as Steve Chapman, Steve Castillo and Steve Castro in the hall.
