COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) — The Ohio Department of Health says there have been 2,497 COVID-19 deaths in the state's long-term care facilities as of Wednesday, Aug. 12.
That is an increase of 68 since the state's last report on August 5.
The long-term care facility deaths account for 66.8 percent of the state's total COVID-19 deaths. Of those deaths, 2,128 have occurred since April 15. The state said 369 were prior to that date.
Franklin County has the most deaths in long-term care facilities with 357. Cuyahoga County has the second-most with 244. No other county has more than 194.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 15,034 total COVID-19 cases in the state's long-term care facilities, according to ODH.
Currently, there are 803 cases among residents and 489 cases among staff members.
On Wednesday, the ODH reported 1,422 new COVID-19 cases across the state, bringing the state's total to 104,248. Hospitalizations rose to 11,901 with 141 new hospitalizations and deaths rose to 3,734 with 26 new deaths.
