Sixteen additional COVID-19 cases and one new death were reported Saturday by Brazos County health officials.
According to the Brazos County Health District, a man in his 80s died in his home. No other information was released, per the health district's privacy policy. There have been 48 COVID-19 deaths in the county.
There are now 4,040 cases that have been reported since the pandemic began. Of those, 3,640 have recovered, 52 more than Friday. There are now 352 active cases in the county, 37 fewer than the previous day.
There were 13 Brazos County residents hospitalized Saturday, which is five fewer than Friday’s total. Five people have been discharged, officials said. Brazos County’s total hospital bed occupancy is 64%, while the ICU bed occupancy is 78%. That number includes all patients, not just those with COVID-19.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, as of Saturday afternoon, there were 154 hospital beds available in the Brazos Valley Trauma Region, which includes Brazos, Robertson, Burleson, Washington, Grimes, Madison and Leon counties. There are three ICU beds and 39 ventilators available, officials said. There are 49 lab-confirmed COVID-19 patients in the hospital.
Health officials said 32,811 tests have been conducted, an increase of 423 since Friday. Brazos County’s total positivity rate — the percentage of positive cases to viral tests — is 12.31. Statewide, that number is 19.4%, with 6,959 new cases reported Saturday. There were 23,806 viral tests reported.
Brazos Valley
Washington County reported 16 new cases Saturday, bringing the total there to 515. According to the DSHS, there are 307 active cases in Washington County, and 39 have died. Madison County is now reporting 666 cases, an increase of eight. There are 315 active cases there, with two who have died.
The DSHS said there are 234 cases in Robertson County, an increase of three. There are 182 active cases, and two people have died. Leon County reported two additional cases on Saturday, making for 143 cases there. Officials said 106 active cases remain in Leon County, where two have died.
Grimes County reports 874 cases, with at least 450 connected to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. There have been 23 deaths in Grimes County, with 15 connected to the Wallace Pack Unit. The DSHS said there are 383 active cases.
Burleson and Milam counties’ numbers on Saturday remained the same as Friday’s report. In Burleson County, there have been 240 cases, with 183 that are active. Six people have died there. In Milam County, there are 333 cases, with 21 active. There have been three who have died.
Statewide
Texas now has 481,483 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic. State officials said 7,872 are in the hospital, 1,097 less than a week ago. Those patients occupy 14.3% of hospital beds. There were 247 Texans who died of COVID-19 reported Saturday, bringing the total to 8,343. State officials said 1,506 died in the past seven days.
Harris County has the most cases in the state, with 83,183. There have been 1,562 who have died there.
According to the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District, there were 57 new COVID-19 cases reported Saturday. The county has 4,946 total cases, with 1,788 of those active; 3,095 have recovered. The county reported its 63rd death on Saturday. Officials said 53 people are hospitalized, with 37 of those McLennan County residents.
