Texas Abortion Ban Back In Effect During Outbreak

A ban on abortions in Texas during the coronavirus outbreak is back in effect for now after a court ruling. An emergency order from Governor Greg Abbott had barred elective surgeries, including abortions, to free up hospital capacity and to spare medical equipment during the crisis. A federal judge ruled the policy unconstitutional on Monday, and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton promptly appealed. On Tuesday, an appeals court put that ruling on hold, giving both sides until Friday afternoon to submit legal briefs.
