SAN ANTONIO - Following an Executive Order from Governor Greg Abbott Sunday, where travelers would be under self-quarantine to reduce the spread of COVID-19, some local officials say it's not enough.

According to a statement from Vincente Gonzalez (TX-15), due to the severity with COVID-19, the state should institute a shelter-in-place order across Texas.

“Travelers from COVID-19 hot zones may be threats to our communities if they have unknowingly contracted the virus," Gonzalez said. "States should institute any measure they see fit to curb the proliferation of COVID-19 including self-quarantine for travelers from pandemic hotspots."

Gonzalez added the state should increase there efforts into reducing the coronavirus to maintain a sense of uniformity across Texas.

"Right now, we have too many competing measures and it’s confusing for individuals who live in one county and work in another," Gonzalez said. "Governor Abbott should do more by issuing a statewide shelter-in-place order for a few weeks to help flatten the curve and make these measures uniform across the state of Texas. We need clarity and leadership and I urge Governor Abbott to issue a shelter-in-place order now.”
