WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) - Wichita Falls Independent School District officials have extended the school closure through April 10 as their School@Home platform curriculum has been designed to cover two weeks worth of instruction.

School officials will continue to develop the curriculum in two-week increments and will provide updates every Friday.

WFISD officials would also like parents who have not been contacted by their child’s teacher to update their contact information.

WFISD School Closure Extended Through April 10

WFISD - This week, Wichita Falls ISD administrators, curriculum and instruction staff and teachers have been developing lessons and educational opportunities for all students as we prepare to transition to our School@Home platform on Monday, March 30. The curriculum has been designed to cover two weeks of instruction. Therefore, the decision has been made to extend WFISD’s school closure through Friday, April 10.

Lessons will continue to be developed in two-week increments and updates will be provided every Friday. Should Governor Abbott make the decision to extend school closures further or should the district feel the need to extend the closure, that information will be communicated as soon as possible.

Parents should have been contacted by their child’s teacher regarding School@Home procedures. The School@Home website will be live and available for student and parent access on Monday, March 30. Those families who requested a low-tech option should have their School@Home packets delivered by Wednesday, April 1.

During this unprecedented situation, WFISD wants to assure our students and their families of the following:

  • We believe that families are doing their best to take care of their children during this difficult time.
  • We commit to providing at-home learning opportunities and resources for our students to support their education while WFISD school buildings are closed.
  • We recognize that there are unique circumstances in every home that may impact a student’s ability to learn during this challenging situation.
  • We will be patient and support all of our students to the best of our ability during this pandemic. In turn, we ask for your patience with our WFISD teachers and staff who are doing their absolute best to take care of our students in the midst of the challenges caused for them and their families by COVID-19.

In keeping with the ordinance passed by the Wichita Falls City Council this morning, WFISD would like to reiterate the importance of staying indoors and practicing responsible social distancing.

Should you have any additional questions, you may call 940.235.1000 or email pio@wfisd.net Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm, and someone will reply as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work together to flatten the curve.
