EnPleinAirTEXAS 2020 juror announced

Jill Basham, paints ‘en plein air’ on the Bowen Ranch, 2019. Now in its seventh year, EnPleinAirTEXAS is acknowledged as one of the premier outdoor painting competitions in the U.S.

According to a news release from event coordinator Barbara Rallo, Sara Linda Poly of Easton, Maryland, has been selected as the juror for the 2020 EnPleinAirTEXAS competition in San Angelo, as artists from all over seek a place in the week-long October painting competition.

According to the release, Poly is known for her sweeping skies and radiant light in landscapes, and she has won numerous awards in regional and national shows and plein air competitions.

As a professional artist and teacher of plein air and studio painting across the U.S., Europe and Mexico for more than 20 years, she also is a well-respected art juror and judge.

EnPleinAirTEXAS Juror Sara Linda Poly’s selections will be announced at a gala museum affair on June 2, 2020.

Joining the selected artists this year are the top four prize winners from the 2019 competition: Hiu Lai Chong of Maryland, the Elta Joyce Murphey Grand Prize winner; Thomas Jefferson Kitts of Oregon, Second Place winner; Zufar Bikbov of Connecticutt, Third Place winner; and Qiang Huang of Texas, Artists Choice winner.

In its seventh year, EnPleinAirTEXAS is acknowledged as one of the premier outdoor painting competitions in the U.S. Paintings are created “en plein air”, the French term for painting in the open air. The artists deal with unpredictable West Texas weather and paint the city and surrounding countryside, creating almost 300 paintings during the event.

The thirty-four selected artists convene in San Angelo October 17-25 and compete for over $20,000 in cash awards. Awards Judge Tim Newton, esteemed art collector and currently Publisher of Western Art & Architecture Magazine, will select the winning paintings for 2020. All paintings are for sale with proceeds supporting the free art/education programs for children offered by event host San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts.
