Soccer, impressive kids and more were all discussed at the Fairfield ISD School Board Meeting held on Monday, February 10, 2020.
High School Principal Sonya Gibson honored the following high school students:
–Four Scholarship receiving football players
–The FFA students who competed in December and won the sweepstakes
–Connor Jackson, for being Student of the Year
–David Thomas, who was able to play in Carnegie Hall
–Kallie Bruce, Sarah McKinley, Krystal Reyes for their FCCLA second grade anti bullying project
–The UIL Debate team, who swept the competition
The seventh Grade Girls Basketball team who are this year’s District Champions where honored by Junior High Principal Bryan Gawryszewski.
The Kindergarten teachers, introduced by Elementary Principal Sheila Ransom, discussed the Grant they won that allowed them to purchase STEM stations.
Ms. Ransom also shared with everyone how hard Donna Shaw, ESL educator, works throughout the school district.
Fairfield Superintendent Dr. Jason Adams personally thanked Cici and her crew for the work they do keeping the campuses clean and sanitized.
After a small switch in the agenda, Erica McQuinn addressed the School Board requesting their consideration of a Soccer team. Kids love to have fun, and it’s part of the joy of being children. So, you want to making exercise fun to engage them and break down any barriers to exercise.
Athletic Director John Bachtel spoke following McQuin with the words, “Tonight yall’ve seen the best of Fairfield, because that’s our kids.”
Bachtel gave the following athletic news:
Cross Country – ten girls 2nd in district, qualify for region, one(Geralee Daniels) for state; ten boys 3rd district, qualified for region
Volleyball –District champs and Area finalist; JV & freshman teams which many schools do not have.
Football- Area Finalist, eighty-eight participants, four scholarships
Basketball – Girls district champs, Aggieland Tournament, waiting to see who and when they will play, boys currently 2nd with a couple games left
Powerlifting –twenty-five girls and twenty-seven boys
Tennis – starting but the weather was not helping
Baseball, Softball – scrimmaging
Track – boys and girls just starting
Golf – has begun
Bachtel points out how most the kids in attendance at the board meeting are already in athletics and how proud he is of how they behaved.
Additional discussions covered:
–The Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) report was explained,
–The order of election for the Board of Trustees was approved,
–The joint election between the City of Fairfield, the Fairfield Hospital Disctrict, and Fairfield ISD,
–The 2020/2021 School Calendar was approved, and should be similar to this year’s,
–Cybersecurity was discussed,
–A possible future Teacher Incentive Allotment was also discussed.
