MIDWEST CITY (KOKH) - The Mid-Del School district says a teacher from Jarman Middle School has resigned after a student claims the teacher assaulted him.

According to Midwest City Police, a student says he called another student a name and the teacher, Blaine Heffington, heard a different name and called him a racist.

The victim told officers he wanted to call his parents and when he got his phone, Heffington grabbed his arm, picked him up by the rib age, turned him over, threw him to the ground, and then laid on top of him.

The victim and multiple student witnesses in the class ran out of the classroom to get help.

Police say they talked to several other witnesses and all of their statements match what the victim told them.

Court records show Heffington declined to speak any further about the incident other than saying, "Well I didn't hurt him".

The Mid-Del school district released the following statement to Fox 25: "The Mid-Del administration was notified on Feb. 10 of a criminal complaint against a teacher at Jarman Middle School. The employee was immediately placed on leave while we cooperated with the Midwest City Police Department in their investigation. The teacher has resigned his position at Mid-Del Schools. We remain in communication with the family of the student involved in the incident."

The teacher now faces one count of assault and battery on a student.
