Rockne News: Upcoming workshop aims to empower women

Lea Ann Goertz Lee
Susie Trigg Tucker will be hosting a workshop at Community Gardens in Bastrop on Feb. 29 titled Love Yourself Here. [CONTRIBUTED]

Ah, mid-February, when our diet resolutions start to wane in the face of chocolate-dipped strawberries and, my favorite, Girl Scout Thin Mints. We all know that true transformation comes from a lifestyle change and not a temporary one, so rather than beating yourself up this year over backsliding on those New Year’s goals, why not seek out some deeper and longer-lasting changes in your mindset?

Susie Trigg Tucker and Community Gardens are presenting the Love Yourself Here Workshop on Feb. 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Community Gardens in Bastrop. The event is for women of any age who are ready to make sustainable change and learn how to rethink any limiting beliefs they may hold.

I look at this new decade as a real chance for self-improvement and far-reaching change, so I was thrilled to chat with Tucker, who is a mindset coach and motivational speaker, to find out more about this workshop.

Here’s my question and answer session with Tucker:

Lee: The workshop is called Love Yourself Here. Tell me about the title and the philosophy behind it.

Tucker: The Love Yourself Here to Get Yourself There philosophy was born from my personal experience in realizing that the key to true inner change begins with embracing and loving ourselves where we stand today. It's about separating our self-worth from our circumstances, embracing growth through strife, and cultivating an unbreakable belief in ourselves so that we can not only achieve our goals, but remain present on the road we travel to get there. To accept and love yourself and create deep belief in yourself, nothing around you needs to change. But in finding those things, everything can change.

Lee: How did you come to be a mindset coach?

Tucker: For my entire adult life, I struggled with my weight. I might find short-term success, but what I finally realized is that there was a missing piece. I never accepted myself and I didn’t believe in myself … Through my journey to recovery from lifelong disordered eating and perfectionism, I found my voice in advocating for women's mental, emotional and physical health through writing and speaking. As my passion for helping others awaken to their own worth evolved, I began exploring ways I could serve and connect with women on a soul level, while using my life experiences to teach them how to transform their lives by changing their mindset.

As a former BISD teacher and a wine industry sales trainer, I am an educator at heart. Mindset coaching allows me to work with my clients in that way, but I am not solely focused on instructing them. I thrive on exploring what makes my clients tick, then facilitating further development of those ideas for them. Through the lens of gratitude and self-love, I give my clients the tools to live joyfully and presently, exactly where they are today.

Lee: The flyer mentions that we can "learn the superpower you already have that will directly change the results in your life." Can you elaborate?

Tucker: I believe our thoughts are our superpower. Circumstances in life are out of our control. It's when we attach positive or negative thoughts about them that we make them mean something. Those thoughts then create our feelings, which lead us to an action, inaction or reaction, which then directly creates our result.

I used to think that I had no control over my thoughts, but I have learned that simply isn't true, and actually it's the opposite! We have full capacity to manage our mind and thoughts, therefore creating a new reality. I have worked very intentionally on managing my thoughts since I began this work four years ago, and I have seen a positive impact in every aspect of my life.

Lee: What can participants expect to get out of the workshop?

Tucker: In my Love Yourself Here philosophy, our thoughts can only truly change when we find deep belief in ourselves. In this workshop, I will teach participants the tools I have learned that have helped me achieve this in myself and in turn, transform my life. It is an interactive, very introspective workshop. Participants will receive a journal and can expect to be facilitated through a set of questions with ample time for reflection and recording in their journal. They will be invited to share their thoughts, but will not be required to. The last hour of the workshop, participants will be guided through a vision board activity where they will create a personal vision board and learn how to align their newfound perspectives with their future goals, dreams, and desires.

Lee: Who is the workshop for?

Tucker: This workshop is for any woman who is interested in making a change in her life for the better. Whether they desire a health goal, a relationship goal, a career goal, or just to overall feel better about themselves, this workshop will empower them to understand that they have the capacity to achieve the version of themselves they've always dreamed of being.

Lee: I noticed you mention creating a vision board. Do we need to bring anything or are supplies provided?

Tucker: Yes! I am so excited about this part. All materials will be provided, but if participants have any specific pictures they want for their board, they are invited to bring them along. We will provide magazines, inspirational stickers and all crafting materials.

Lee: What other kind of workshops or speaking engagements have you done?

Tucker: I have spoken for various organizations locally and in Austin over the past year. I was featured on KEYE, appeared on several podcasts and had my writing featured on numerous websites. I also work with companies to provide customized employee and leadership mindset training. You can find more of my work at susietriggtucker.com or find me on Facebook or Instagram @susietriggtucker where I share mini-blogs several times per week.

Lee: What else do you want people to know? Can they reach out to you with questions?

Tucker: If you show up with an open mind and ready to invest in yourself, I truly believe this workshop can change your life. You are guaranteed to leave with a new perspective on yourself! Feel free to reach out to me directly with any questions at susietriggtucker@gmail.com. Tickets can be purchased directly through the Community Gardens website at communitygardenshop.com/love-yourself-workshop.html.
