MIDLAND, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Midland ISD is rolling out the red carpet for those interested in the various magnet elementary campuses and Partnership schools within the district.

To showcase the schools and their specialized curriculum, the district has planned a series of open house events that will begin Tuesday.

Below is a list of the open house events scheduled by MISD:


Tuesday, Jan. 21, Informational Meetings at 12 and 5:30 p.m.

Carver Center

Carver Center is our elementary school catering specifically to our most gifted and talented students. The application process for Carver Center is separate from our other Schools of Choice. For more information, visit our Advanced Academic Services.


Tuesday, Feb. 4, Open to parents from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

San Jacinto Junior High (Sixth grade)

San Jacinto Junior High is home to seventh- and eighth-graders, but also has openings for select sixth graders wishing to get a jump start on their secondary education through a strong focus on AVID strategies, specifically designed to prepare students for college. Current fifth-graders district-wide can apply for sixth-grade at San Jacinto.


Tuesday, Feb. 4, Tours at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m., Information Meeting at 6 p.m.

Young Women’s Leadership Academy (YWLA)

YWLA, currently housed on the campus of Jones Elementary, is a partner campus with the Young Women’s Preparatory Network that focuses on leadership, health and wellness, college readiness, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.) YWLA opened in the fall of 2019 with 6th- and 7th-grade girls, and will expand to 6th-12th grades.


Thursday, Feb. 6, Tours at 8 a.m., 12 p.m., and 4 p.m., open to parents all day

Pease Communications and Technology Academy

Pease is an elementary magnet school that provides students with a dynamic academic environment complete with opportunities to expand knowledge and skills in computer technology, communications and video production. This magnet campus also offers bilingual instruction (Spanish) in kindergarten through fifth grade.


Thursday, Feb. 6, Open to parents 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. 

Bowie Fine Arts Academy

Bowie is an elementary magnet school that provides a rigorous academic environment while encouraging artistic excellence. Multiple arts disciplines such as piano, choir, fine arts, theater arts and dance are integrated into a robust academic environment.

Washington STEM Academy

Washington is an elementary magnet that provides a rigorous academic program that integrates hands-on, inquiry-based instruction in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Students explore, investigate and experiment in enriching labs and in the Outdoor Learning Center. English as a Second Language (ESL) education is also offered in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Sam Houston Collegiate Prep Elementary

Sam Houston focuses on the path to college from the very first day, with curriculum geared toward success in college following high school graduation.

Ben Milam International Academy (BMIA)

BMIA is an innovation school that is a part of Milam Elementary, a traditional pre-k through sixth grade campus. BMIA launched a dual-language curriculum with pre-k and kindergarten in the fall of 2019. Additional grade levels will be added each year until the entire school is participating. The campus caters to students of varying linguistic backgrounds, and includes instruction in both Spanish and English.

IDEA Travis Academy

IDEA Travis is a pre-k through sixth grade school opening in the fall of 2020 that will prepare students for success in college and beyond. The school will add a grade each year to eventually serve students through 12th grade. Student accepted into IDEA Travis can remain at the same campus through graduation.
