Surveillance video KFOX14 obtained from Las Cruces Public Schools shows the moment a Las Cruces police officer fired his gun inside of Picacho Middle School.

Officer Francisco Estrada, who has been employed with LCPD for 8 years and has been a school resource officer since August 2015, now faces charges in connection with last week's incident.

The bullet went off at 1:37 p.m. last Wednesday.

Less than a minute before, a security guard and two students walked through the hall where the bullet went passed.

According to LCPD, Estrada accidentally discharged his duty-issued handgun when he was in his office, which is directly next door to the school's administration office.

According to what the video shows and school blueprints KFOX14 obtained from the district, the bullet traveled through two office walls and ended up lodged in a third wall.

Seconds after the gun goes off Estrada runs into the hallway, directly into the administration office, then him and the school principal go out into the hallway to inspect the area.

Estrada was charged with one misdemeanor count of prohibited use of a firearm.

Dan Trujillo with LCPD tells us that Estrada is now on administrative desk duty.
