The Chamber of Commerce announced several awards to citizens and groups at its annual banquet held January 23, 2017.

The banquet began with the Goodfellow Joint Color Guard presenting the colors as Rita Capuchina sang the national anthem. Lt. Gen. Ronnie Hawkins delivered the invocation.

Outgoing 2017 Chairman Chuck Shore made most of the presentations. Shore retired from First Financial Bank in San Angelo as executive vice president at the end of 2017.

Shore recognized Mike Boyd for his generosity, “Mike Boyd has stepped in as the interim Chamber president when he could have simply begun his retirement and gone merrily on his way. Instead, he has committed hours he could have spent with his family in efforts to maintain and improve relationships with the City, county, and Chamber members. His tireless work is truly appreciated, join me in giving him a round of applause.”

Presented by: C.J. Muniz, BlueCross BlueShield of Texas and 2018 Board of Directors Chair
Awarded to: Chuck Shore
Accepted by: Chuck Shore

“As an expression for our sincere appreciation of your outstanding leadership and abilities so generously given to this community. I award you the 2017 Chairman of the Board plaque. For those of you who don’t know Chuck’s gavel disappeared following last year’s annual banquet. It was recovered just a couple of months ago. So, he reigned over this year’s board meetings beautifully without one. Chuck on behalf of the Chamber, I present you with the gavel called the “Persuader” for all those major decisions you will make in retirement. You know like, where to eat tonight or travel to next! You may have entered in a white hat, saving the day here at the Chamber, but now you can let the real Chuck show, Harley and a black cowboy hat. Be bad Chuck! Thank you for your service.”

Looking to the Future

C.J. Muniz, BlueCross BlueShield of Texas and 2018 Board of Directors Chair:
“The theme I have chosen this year is “Coming Together.” Henry Ford, we all know who he is. An American captain of industry and business, founder of Ford Motor Company, once quoted, “Coming Together is a beginning; Keeping Together is progress; Working Together is success. Imagine putting a puzzle together, and as the pieces are attached, the picture becomes more evident. I see this year as a puzzle, where more pieces will be added, and the picture gets clearer. As you will notice, the center pieces on the table represent the three signature buildings in the City. Tom Green County Courthouse, City Hall and the Visitors Center. The three components, City, County and Chamber must continue to work together for our businesses, chamber membership and for all citizen who want to do business. We all want San Angelo to be a place that is easy to do business in.”
