Armstrong

At 4:55 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2019, Susan Kay Armstrong was taken home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. Susan was born March 1, 1950, in Houston, Texas. She was a loving wife, mother, Mimi, aunt and friend. She lived her life for others and touched the lives of so many through her 30-year teaching career as a first grade teacher in Friendswood ISD and a kindergarten teacher at Stevenson Primary in Alvin ISD where many of her students remember her as Mrs. Wheatley.  Upon retiring from teaching, she became a full-time Mimi and was always her grandchildren’s biggest fan. She was extremely talented and loved sharing her gifts with others through baking, decorating and her passion for gardening.  Her yard was always the most beautiful around and filled with roses, delicate and beautiful, just as she was.

Susan is survived by her husband, Donald Armstrong, of League City; son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Jill Wheatley of Alvin; daughter and son-in-law, Shelli and Ken Darnell of Alvin; daughter, Melinda Wheatley of Alvin; granddaughter, Hollie Beth Darnell; grandsons, Trace Darnell, Trenton Ortiz, Konner Ortiz, Rylin Ortiz and Landin Ortiz; niece and great-niece, Sarril and Sophia Owen; nephew, Bobby Owen; and other special people in her life: Debbie Dwight, Clare Hauser, Eric Ortiz and Becky Peebles as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Her Stevenson Primary family was always dear to her heart.

A memorial visitation was held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2019, with a memorial service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Scott Funeral Home in Alvin.

If so inclined, donations can be made in Susan’s name to the American Cancer Society, Alvin ISD Education Foundation or AARSP Retired Teachers Children’s Book Project, PO Box 5602, Alvin, TX 77512.

Arrangements under the direction of the Scott Family.
